The Four Natural Powers in the Workplace

The complexity of our business environment entails that companies need to evaluate their organizational structure to make sure that it matches the complexity outside. Within this context, an organization might choose to have multiple layers in its structure or to adopt a flat model with a limited number of layers.

Regardless of our positions and titles in the workplace, we still can express our best and enjoy the sense of fulfillment that we will receive accordingly. Robin Sharma in his book, The Leader Who Had No Title, expressed this as the Four Natural Powers that we all have. These powers are:

  1. “Every one of us alive has the power to go to work each day and express the absolute best within us and you need no title”.
  2. “Every one of us alive today has the power to inspire, influence and elevate each person we meet by the gift of a great example and you need no title to do that”.
  3. “Every one of us alive can passionately drive positive change in the face of negative conditions. And you need no title to do that”.
  4. “Every one of us alive who has the truth about leadership, can treat all stakeholders with respect, appreciation and kindness and in so doing, raise the organization’s culture to the best of breeds. And you need no title to do that”.

There are different kinds of powers you can have other than the one that comes with your title. In fact, the power to express your best, to inspire others, to be positive and to show respect are even more important.
